Ghana has donated 40 metric tonnes of chocolate and cocoa products to Palestine to support people in Gaza facing hardship.

President John Dramani Mahama, in his remarks at the donation ceremony on Friday, stated that the donation of Golden Tree brand cocoa products demonstrates Ghana’s support for the Palestinians.

“We are gathered here today not only to reaffirm our fraternal ties with Palestine, but to respond in a small yet heartfelt way to the humanitarian needs of the people of Gaza,” Mahama said at the Presidency.

The President said cocoa is one of Ghana’s most treasured commodities and provides livelihoods for millions of Ghanaian farmers.

He described cocoa as a “powerful superfood” rich in antioxidants and vitamins that supports the immune system and promotes health.

President Mahama said Ghana has maintained relations with Palestine since the Palestinian Liberation Organisation opened an office in Accra in 1986.

He lauded the Palestinian community in Ghana for building classroom blocks in underserved communities, including Dramani Kope in the North Tongu constituency and Yizebisi in the northern region.

The President said Ghana supports a two-state solution to the Palestinian question in line with international law and UN resolutions.

He called on all parties to “embrace diplomacy, commit to dialogue, and end the cycle of violence.”

President Mahama urged Israeli authorities to open the borders so that humanitarian aid can flow into Gaza.

He said Ghana believes in the power of negotiation, the strength of peaceful resolution, and the possibility of renewal after pain.

“To our friends and brothers and sisters in Palestine, please know that you will not walk alone. Ghana stands in solidarity with you,” the President said.

He described the donation as offering “not just sustenance but a symbol of our enduring friendship and our solidarity.”

The ceremony was attended by Palestinian Ambassador Abdul Fattah Ahmed Khalil al-Satay, UN officials, diplomatic corps members, and government officials.

The donation was organized by the Ghana Cocoa Board, Cocoa Processing Company, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
