President John Dramani Mahama has presented engineering equipment and supplies to the Jamaican Defence Force in support of the ongoing recovery and reconstruction efforts.

A government delegation led by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Honourable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, made the presentation to Jamaica’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, HE Kamina Johnson Smith, on behalf of President Mahama during a working visit to Luana Camp on Sunday, January 25, 2026.

The visit provided an opportunity for the delegation to obtain first-hand information on operations, monitor progress, and assess the welfare of Ghanaian troops deployed in the multinational humanitarian response following Hurricane Melissa.

The delegation toured several project sites where Ghanaian personnel are rebuilding and rehabilitating homes for hurricane-affected residents. The initiative forms part of ongoing humanitarian interventions.

Both Foreign Ministers commended the teams for their professionalism, resilience and collaborative spirit, emphasising that the joint efforts of Ghana, Jamaica, and Guyana reflect strong regional cooperation and a shared commitment to humanitarian service.

The Commander of the Ghana Engineering Reconstruction Team, Colonel Emmanuel Asia, delivered a detailed briefing, outlining the scope of work, accomplishment, challenges and plans for the remaining phase of the reconstruction effort.

Other members of the Ghanaian delegation include the Deputy Minister for Defence, Honourable Ernest Brogya Genfi, the Chief of the Army Staff, Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu and Ghana’s Special Envoy to the Caribbean Region HE Kwasi Kyei Darkwah.
