The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has expressed concern over delays in the promotion and placement of teachers within the Ghana Education Service (GES).
The association said some teachers who have completed the required processes for promotion are still waiting to be placed in their new ranks.
According to GNAT, the delay has created financial difficulties, uncertainty and frustration among affected teachers, who continue to perform their duties without receiving the benefits attached to their promotions.
The association is also concerned about the delay in separating the Director II and Director I ranks from the positions of District and Regional Directors.
GNAT said the situation is affecting career progression and causing stagnation within the professional structure of the GES.
It has therefore called on the GES, the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) and the Public Services Commission (PSC) to speed up the necessary processes to ensure affected teachers are properly placed.
The association also expressed disappointment over the delay in renewing the collective agreement governing the terms and conditions of service for teachers.
The agreement expired on July 31, 2026.
GNAT made the concerns known after a meeting of its National Executive at its headquarters in Accra on August 7, 2026.
