The Minister for Transport, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, on Tuesday revealed plans to transform Terminal 2 of Kotoka International Airport into a multipurpose terminal, aimed at reducing congestion at Terminal 3.

Speaking before Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Mr. Nikpe explained that the project would include a connecting concourse linking Terminals 2 and 3.

“This high-priority government initiative seeks to ease the pressure on Terminal 3, which often becomes overcrowded during peak hours, while Terminal 2 remains underused,” he said.

“Evenings at Terminal 3 are particularly congested. Terminal 2 is underutilized during these times, so our plan is to create a connecting concourse between the two terminals to facilitate smoother movement of international passengers and allow both terminals to share traffic,” Mr. Nikpe added.

The Transport Minister noted that the repurposing project is set for implementation in 2026. Once completed, Terminal 2 will serve both domestic and international travelers, improving comfort and travel efficiency at the airport.

“This project is a top government priority and will enhance the experience for our international passengers. Terminal 2 will now operate as a multipurpose terminal for both domestic and international flights,” he told PAC members.
