The Ghana Water Ltd (GWL) has successfully completed the replacement of weak sections of the 21-inch and 42-inch (525mm and 1050mm) diameter Kpong–Tema transmission pipelines, allowing water production to resume at the Kpong Treatment Plant.
The maintenance exercise, which commenced on Thursday, August 6, 2026, was completed on schedule despite technical and operational challenges encountered during the intervention.
GWL said in an August 10 circular that the successful completion of the works marks an important step towards restoring water supply to communities that were affected by the maintenance exercise.
However, the company cautioned that the restoration of water supply will be gradual as the transmission lines and reservoirs are refilled and operating pressures are progressively rebuilt across the network.
“The restoration of supply will be progressive as the transmission lines and reservoirs are filled and operating pressures are gradually rebuilt. Barring unforeseen technical challenges, more consumers are expected to receive water as the system stabilises.”

Ghana Water Ltd stressed that the resumption of water production at the Kpong Treatment Plant does not mean that all affected communities will immediately return to continuous water supply.
The company’s Water Demand Management and rationing programme remains in place to ensure the equitable distribution of the available water among consumers.
Customers have therefore been urged to continue observing their usual water rationing schedules while the network is gradually recharged and reservoirs replenished.

GWL also appealed to consumers for continued patience and understanding as the company works to restore normal operating pressures and progressively improve supply.
