First Lady Lordina Mahama was moved to tears during the solemn flower-laying ceremony in memory of the victims of the recent helicopter crash.
Mrs. Mahama, accompanied by her children, dignitaries, and mourners, was overcome with emotion as she honored the memory of the deceased.
The moment drew sympathy from those present, many of whom also appeared deeply moved. She was comforted by Chief of Staff Julius Debrah and her children.
Meanwhile, Minister of Communications Sam George also became emotional, breaking down in tears.
President John Mahama and Chief of Staff Julius Debrah also showed visible emotion during the opening of the three-day wreath-laying ceremony on Thursday, August 7.
The period of mourning will end on Saturday, August 9, with an Evening of Reflections and Memorials at the Forecourt of the State House, starting at 5:00 p.m.
This closing event will bring together government leaders, members of the diplomatic corps, and citizens to honour the lives and legacies of the departed. Official tributes will also be delivered during the memorial service.
