The Inspector General of Police has placed a bounty on the heads of criminals who shot two police officers on duty at Abaka-Lapaz in Accra, killing one of them on the spot.

Mr. Asante-Appeatu, who was speaking at an event in Accra on Friday, said an amount of Ghc 10,000 has been made available for person(s) who can volunteer information that will lead to the arrest of the culprits.

He said recent attacks on the police are a source of “concern” to his administration and while they explore ways to resolve the issue, stiffer punishment will be meted out to anyone who attempts taking on an officer in uniform.

The robbers, who sped off without any response from onlookers, are yet to be arrested. The administration yesterday issued a statement entreating the public to be calm, as efforts are made to apprehend the attackers.

“The general public is hereby entreated to remain calm and support the police in their effort to arrest the perpetrators by volunteering useful information to police numbers 18555, 0302787373, 0302773695, 0302773906.”

The latest attack has sparked anger on social media with some questioning the preparedness of government to deal with what they consider as increasing levels of lawlessness in the country.
