The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has opened the Upper West Regional Police Headquarters in Wa, calling for stronger collaboration between the police and the public to maintain law and order in the region.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening the Ghana Police Service through sustained investment in logistics, mobility, communication equipment, and infrastructure.
He urged police officers to manage these resources responsibly, stressing the need for accountability and efficient use of public assets.
The Minister also appealed to traditional leaders, chiefs, and community members to work closely with the police, noting that security is a shared responsibility.
He highlighted the role of community intelligence, effective conflict resolution, and positive youth guidance in sustaining peace and stability across the region.
He commended police officers for their dedication and courage and encouraged the public to support and respect them.
According to him, a police service that enjoys public trust is more confident, responsive, and effective in carrying out its duties.
The Upper West Regional Minister, Charles Lwanga Puozuing, also emphasised the need for peace and security to create an environment where businesses can grow. He urged officers to take good care of the new facility and ensure it is used for its intended purpose.
The commissioning of the Regional Police Headquarters marks an important step in the government’s efforts to enhance security in the Upper West Region.
The new facility is expected to improve rapid response, crime management, and coordination among security agencies, while bringing policing closer to the people.
