A joint police and military task force has on Monday dawn conducted a swoop at Madina Zongo Junction in Accra and arrested over 300 suspects.
The Accra Regional Police Operations Commander, Chief Superintendent Samuel Kwesi Ofori, told the media that the operation was undertaken based on intelligence and crime mapping.
The said the suspects are believed to be involved in crimes such as robberies and drug peddling.
The suspects were put aboard security trucks and moved to the Regional Police Headquarters where they are expected to be investigated and necessary actions taken against them.

“We conducted joint police, military operations this morning [Monday] aimed at arresting criminals suspected to be involved in robberies, drug peddling and other criminal activities within the metropolis and its immediate environs…We’ve accomplished our mission this morning. We will be handing over 300 suspects to the Criminal Investigations Department at the Regional Headquarters to investigate and initiate actions that may depend on criminality among others,†he said.
“It is a special joint police-military operation that was conducted based on intelligence and crime mapping,†Chief Superintendent Kwesi Ofori added.
The taskforce also carried out a similar collaborative operation last week at Budumburam in the Central Region led to the arrest of 141 suspected criminals.
That operation was conducted around midnight and suspects, including 15 women were rounded up.

A police statement on that operation noted that such exercises will be replicated at different locations across the country as part of a major effort to fight crime.
“This special exercise shall be replicated nationwide. The public are therefore entreated to provide vital information to assist the police in fighting crime,†the statement said.
