The Kasoa-Ofaakor Circuit Court has sentenced robbery suspect Mohammed Bello to 25 years in prison with hard labour for his role in a highway robbery attack along the Dabanyin stretch of the Winneba Highway.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, July 6, 2025, when Bello and four accomplices opened fire on a Toyota Hiace vehicle, injuring four passengers and robbing them of cash and valuables.

Bello was arrested by officers from the Gomoa East District Police Command shortly after the attack, while attempting to flee the scene. His accomplices remain at large.

Following his arrest, Bello was transferred to the Central East Regional Police Command, where he was charged, prosecuted, and convicted.

A statement from the Command said efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects. “We assure the public of our continued commitment to safety and law enforcement,” the police said.

Background

The robbery occurred around 12:30 a.m. near Gomoa Buduatta Junction on the Kasoa-Winneba Road. Bello and his gang reportedly robbed passengers and drivers of mobile phones, cash, and personal belongings.

When police apprehended Bello, he was found with GH₵3,740, two Samsung phones, a Tecno Spark 20, an Itel keypad phone, a power bank, a lady’s purse, five sticks of cigarettes, a wristwatch, a headset, a phone charger, and a pair of sandals later identified by a victim.
