Residents of the Kwahu Traditional Area have been banned from invoking curses in the area due to an upsurge in the phenomenon which is allegedly causing the deaths of several people in recent times.

According to the traditional council, residents including Christians, Muslims and students have also joined the trend invoking curses against their colleagues.

At least 20 complaints about invoked curses are recorded in the area daily, said the Krontihene of Kwahu-Abene, Nana Simpe Wiredu.

He lamented the situation is having a devastating effect on the traditional council as many young people are dying as a result.

Speaking at a traditional durbar to mark Kwahu Adae-Kese, Sunday, December 3, 2017, at Abene, the Krontihene announced that, the traditional Council has with immediate effect forbidden invocation of curses in the area warning of hefty fines and punishment if found culpable.

“It is very disheartening to note that, at least 20 cases of invocation of curses are recorded in the Kwahu area every day, even in the olden days when Christianity had not spread, invoking of curses wasn’t rampant but now even Christians, Mallams, and traditionalists are all invoking curses, everybody is into it. We have forbidden invocation of curses with immediate effect, anyone caught culpable will be dealt with.”
