The Accra Circuit Court has remanded 49-year-old Nigerian Augustine Okechuku Maazi into police custody for two weeks.
Okechuku Maazi has been charged with eight counts of conspiracy to commit robbery for his alleged role in robbery attacks in Tema, Spintex, and Labone.
He has, however, pleaded not guilty.
According to the prosecution's facts, Okechuku and five others belong to a robbery syndicate that trails and robs victims after bank transactions.
They reportedly operate in Ivory Coast and Benin and had been under police surveillance since May 2026, when they attacked victims at Spintex.
The police gunned down two suspects after an exchange of gunfire in Labone on August 13.
Three other suspects remain at large.
Lawyer for the accused prayed for bail, but the request was refused after the prosecution indicated that he was a flight risk and investigations were still underway.
The judge then remanded Augustine Okechuku Maazi into police custody to reappear on September 2.
