Senior Lawyer, Sam Okudzeto, has defended the three year ban slapped on Lawyer Francis-Xavier Sosu by the General Legal Council.

Mr. Okudzeto, who is a member of the disciplinary committee of the council says Mr Sosu contravened the laws and regulation governing the practice of law in the country, and deserved the punishment to serve as a deterrent and to maintain the integrity of the profession.

Francis-Xavier Sosu who is famous for championing human right cases was last week suspended after being found guilty of advertising his services and overcharging a client.

Mr Okudzeto told JoyNews "I was part of the panel that convicted him and that panel included the incoming Chief Justice as the Chairperson and so it is not a mean thing",

For many Lawyers who do not understand, he said, they should read what is happening in other jurisdictions about ethics and behaviour of professionals.

He added that, lawyers must ensure that whatever contract they sign with clients, is in accordance with the ethics of the profession.

The senior lawyer called on upcoming law practitioners to ensure they abide by ethics of the profession and act responsibly in the performance of their duties.
