A structural collapse involving an uncompleted four-storey building at the Experimental D/A School in Accra New Town was reported to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) at 5pm on Sunday, March 29, 2026.
A total of 23 persons (15 females and 8 males, including three minors) were trapped.
Through the swift and dedicated efforts of GNFS rescuers and partner agencies, 20 persons were successfully rescued and conveyed to various health facilities for treatment.
Sadly, the Ghana National Fire Service said three persons (two females and one male) lost their lives, and their remains have been handed over to the police for preservation and further investigation.
Rescue and security teams remain on site to complete debris clearing and ensure safety.
The GNFS commended its rescuers for their timely response, professionalism and unwavering commitment, which significantly contributed to saving lives.
“We also express appreciation to all supporting agencies for their coordination and support.
“Our deepest condolences go to the bereaved families, and we wish the injured a speedy recovery,” a statement on its Facebook page said.
