Some Ghanaians have expressed displeasure at the mere thought of legalizing homosexuality in the country, describing it as an unacceptable act which should not be entertained.

According to them, the Ghanaian society in which they were brought up frowns upon homosexuality, adding traditional values, coupled with Christian and Islamic values are against such acts, thus government should not consider it for legalization because the masses will not accept it.

Their opinions come on the wheels of President Akufo Addo's comment on the issue of homosexuality and whether it stands a chance of being legalized in the country.

The President in an interview on Aljazeera said the sociocultural environment will not allow for it to be legalized. He however added that, what will cause the tides to change is when there is stronger advocacy, citing examples in other parts of the world where activities of these individuals or groups towards the legalization of homosexualism drove the change in laws, adding when the country gets there, a decision will be taken but for now, there is no such support.

The Christian Council of Ghana has expressed worry at the comments of the President, explaining that it may serve as a source of encouragement for some homosexual groups and advocacy groups to start lobbying and putting pressure on the government to legalize it. They have also urged the president to set the records straight on his stance since the country is 'absolutely against' the legalization of homosexuality.

The comments of President Akufo Addo have sparked various debates in the Ghanaian public sphere on the issue of homosexuality and its probable legalization in the near future. Primenewsghana hit the streets to find out the viewpoints of some Ghanaian citizens.
