Kwaku Bonsam, traditional priest, has endorsed a call by Nollywood actor, Pete Edochie, for African politicians to swear by smaller gods when taking office in order to curb corruption.

Politicians are currently sworn in using the Bible and the Quaran, but Edochie says God does not intervene or mete out punishment when those politicians break their oath of office.

However, he is of the view that the small gods will mete out instant punishment to politicians who break their oath.

Endorsing the proposal, Kwaku Bonsam challenged Mahama Ayariga, the MP for Bawkwu Central to swear by the gods if he indeed believes that Boakye Agarko, the minister for energy, bribed some members of the appointments committee.

“Honourable Mahama Ayariga must be made to swear by the gods and all other members invited too must be forced to do same because the gods work in a quick action manner and would not disappoint,” he said.

Ayariga and two other MPs, Alhassane Suhuyini and Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, have alleged that they received GHC3,000 each from the minority chief whip, Mubarak Muntaka.

They claimed Muntaka told them that the money came from Joseph Osei-Owusu, who in turn got it from Boakye Ayarko.

Parliament has since set up a  committee to investigate the matter.
