President John Dramani Mahama has presented 100 pickup vehicles to the Ghana Police Service (GPS) as part of efforts to strengthen law enforcement operations and improve public safety nationwide.

The vehicles, handed over at a brief ceremony at the Police Headquarters in Accra on Thursday, January 8, form the first batch of several pickups earmarked for the Service. President Mahama stressed that the vehicles are not ceremonial but essential operational tools required to enhance effective policing across the country.

“These 100 pickups are the first batch of several pickups that we shall be presenting to the Police Service,” the President said. “They are operational necessities that will improve patrols, reduce response time, extend policing to hard-to-reach areas, and enhance police visibility nationwide.”

He explained that the vehicles would enable police officers to respond to emergencies more efficiently and operate safely, particularly in remote and underserved communities.

“In simple terms, they will get the police to where they are needed faster and safer,” President Mahama added.

Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, expressed gratitude to the President on behalf of the Ghana Police Service and reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to the responsible use of the vehicles.

“I wish to express the heartfelt appreciation of the Ghana Police Service to you,” the IGP said. “We assure you of our loyalty and our commitment to protect these assets, deploy them wisely, and use them diligently in the service of peace, safety, and national stability.”

IGP Yohuno further assured that the Ghana Police Service remains committed to supporting national development and reforms, pledging to uphold professionalism, discipline, and the rule of law in the defence of the nation.
