The Criminal High Court has adjourned the case involving 14 persons accused of killing Major Mahama to Wednesday, 21 March 2018.
The reason for the adjournment as explained by Court of Appeal judge Mariama Owusu was that five of the accused persons had no legal representation when the case was called today, Monday, 5 March.
They include Joseph Appiah, Bismarck Abanga, Kojo, Kofi Nyamekye and Kwesi Asante.
Justice Owusu stated that in order for the case to continue all the 14 accused persons must have lawyers before the trial starts since it was a murder case.
Meanwhile, Captain Dennis Mahama (rtd), father of the late military officer, was in court to observe proceedings for the first time.
Speaking to the media on his reaction to the adjournment, he said that he expected to see more people being tried as it was a mob justice which was obviously carried out by about 50 individuals.
"Looking at the number of people we saw in the video, and the number of people arrested in the beginning, we thought the courts would have tried more people. We expected to have a mob trial so that all those involved will explain their actions on that day. Unfortunately, this is not what happened. Our sentiments remain our sentiments and the law is the law. Even though we see close to 50 people, the law says 14, so we have no choice." he lamented.
Major Mahama was lynched by some residents of Denkyira-Obuase (now New Obuase) on Monday, 29 May 2017 after they allegedly mistook him for an armed robber.
