The Ghana Police Service, through the National Operations Directorate Surveillance Unit, has arrested a suspect in connection with the alleged possession of foreign currency suspected to be counterfeit and a firearm without lawful authority.

In a press release, the police said the arrest took place in Ablekuma, Greater Accra Region, and identified Josiah Elorm Kwame Amezado as the suspect.

This follows intelligence indicating the involvement in criminal activities and possession of a firearm by a self-styled fetish priest in the area, allegedly posing a potential risk to residents.

“A search conducted in the suspect’s room led to the retrieval of quantities of US dollar notes in one-hundred-dollar denominations, a pair of handcuffs, a black vest, a Kuzey A100 blank pistol, and fifty-eight 9mm blank ammunition,” the release said.

“The suspect is currently in police custody while investigations are ongoing to establish the source and authenticity of the currency.”

That would also help to unravel the circumstances surrounding the possession of the firearm and other items, it added.
