Metro Mass Transit Limited Scandal: MD asked to proceed on leave

The board of the Metro Mass Transit Limited, MMT has ordered the Managing Director of MMT Bennet Aboagye and his personal assistant Yiadom Kesse to proceed on leave with immediate effect.

The Metro Mass Transit Limited Board’s decision comes after the media uncovered some financial malfeasance at the company.

The staff union of the Metro Mass Transit Limited on Tuesday petitioned the Transport Minister to demand the removal of Bennet Aboagye for full-scale investigations into his alleged corruption and procurement breaches.

The on -leave MD of Metro Mass Transit Limited Bennet Aboagye and a leading member of the NPP, Dr. Amoako Tuffuor has been accused of breaching several procurement laws in the acquisition of some 300 buses since taking over the company over a year ago and also attempting to bribe the whistleblower with GHc40, 000 when they were confronted with evidence.

Although Bennet Aboagye has confirmed paying the money, he said he did so to trap his accuser to retrieve a certain secret audio recording which he [Lawal] was using to blackmail him as advised by the Police CID.

However, in a radio interview, the on-leave MD of Metro Mass Transit Limited said his office was bugged with a recording device by his accuser who also threatened to release some audio conversations of him to the public if an amount of GHc1m was not paid.
