National Security operatives in the Ashanti Region have intercepted seven trucks suspected of being used to divert goods meant for export, in an apparent attempt to evade taxes.

According to officials, the goods were being transported from the Tema Port under the claim that their final destination was Burkina Faso.

However, investigations revealed that the cargo was instead being offloaded in Kumasi and other parts of the Ashanti Region.

The trucks were initially intercepted at Nkawkaw in the Eastern Region and escorted to Kumasi by National Security personnel as part of ongoing investigations to verify their true destination.

Though the drivers maintained they were en route to Burkina Faso, authorities suspect the operation was a deliberate scheme to avoid paying the required duties on the goods.

National Security operatives, working in collaboration with Customs officers, have taken custody of the trucks in Kumasi.

Officials say efforts are underway to identify and locate the owners of the goods to aid in the investigation.
