The Presby Boys Secondary School (PRESEC) has qualified for the semi-finals of the 2017 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) competition after beating Keta SHTS (KETASCO) and Jachie Pramso SHS (JAPASS) on Saturday.

Being the most successful school in the history of the NSMQ, with five trophies to their name, the Christian Gentlemen were top favourites to progress to the next stage and they did not disappoint though it was not an easy ride.

After five rounds of questioning, PRESEC amassed 53 points, KETASCO and JAPASS had 44 and 31 points respectively.

There had been earlier concerns among supporters of PRESEC, that the opponents who have been described as giant killers may cause yet another upset in the competition,

JAPASS, a relatively unknown school from the Bosomtwe District of the Ashanti Region caused an upset by beating 2001 winners Pope John's SHS (POJOSS) and Zion College (ZICO) to qualify for the quarter-finals,

KETASCO also beat two-time winners and last year finalists, Opoku Ware School (OWASS) and Drobo SHS to get to the quarter-finals.

But the PRESECANS lived up to their brilliant reputation to ensure that their quest for a record-extending sixth title remained on course.
