The people of Okuapeman, which involves seventeen towns, in the Eastern Region, have demonstrated against the continuous presence of National Security operatives at the Palace of the Paramount Chief of Akropong Akuapem.

The National Security operatives took over the Palace about eight months ago when misunderstanding between two factions broke during an installation of a new Paramount Chief at Akropong Akuapem.

The Akropong Akuapem paramountcy became vacant when Oseadeayo Addo Dankwah passed away about three years ago.

The throne has been vacant until about eight months ago, when the Akuffo Ruling Family, made up of Nketia Royal Family, Ama Ogya Royal Family and Sakyibea Royal Family, decided to perform the necessary rites to install a new chief.

This brought misunderstanding between the families which compelled the National Security to take over the Palace.

The youth and elders of Okuapeman who find it unfair as President Akufo-Addo hails from the land on Tuesday, July 17, 2018, hit the streets of Akropong Akuapem to demonstration against the continues stay of National Security at the Palace.

They held placards some of which read;  “When did Victor Newman became a royal, Why is Victor Newman so interested in the Chieftaincy of Okuapeman?”, among others.

The residents presented the petition to the District Chief Executive for Akuapem Noth, Dennis Aboagye and Queenmother, Nana Obuo Nketia II, who promised to convey their concerns to the appropriate quarters.
