One person has died, and 37 others were injured after a bus crashed into a truck at Mankrong near Suhum on the Accra to Kumasi Highway.
The accident, which occurred on Sunday, January 11, 2026, involved a 40-seater Zhong Tong bus and a Man Diesel truck, both of which were said to be in motion at the time of the collision.
Firefighters, led by Assistant Divisional Officer Two Bernard Boamah, arrived at the scene within minutes and found several passengers trapped in the wreckage of the bus. One person was confirmed dead, while 37 others, made up of 21 males and 17 females, sustained varying degrees of injury. Occupants of the truck were not injured.
Rescue personnel worked to free the trapped victim, who died at the scene, and assisted the injured, some of whom had already been transported to the Suhum Government Hospital for treatment.
The team also cleared the roadway of debris and helped restore traffic flow on the busy highway to ensure the safety of other road users.
The front portion of the bus was extensively damaged, while the truck sustained minor damage at the rear. Eyewitnesses told emergency responders that the bus was allegedly speeding before crashing into the truck
