The Eastern Regional Police Command has arrested more than 10 students following violent clashes between Okuapeman Senior High School and Mount Sinai Senior High School in the Akuapem North Municipality.
The confrontation, which occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, September 2, 2026, reportedly escalated into reprisal attacks, with parts of both school campuses set ablaze and several structures destroyed.
Eastern Regional Police Commander, DCOP Joseph Owusu-Bempah, said the arrests form part of an ongoing effort to identify and prosecute everyone involved in the violence.
Speaking on Eyewitness News, he said some students managed to flee before the arrival of the Police, but stressed that their absence would not shield them from arrest.
“We have apprehended them. And there are more,” he said.
The Police are currently putting together a comprehensive list of students and other persons suspected to have taken part in the clashes.
DCOP Owusu-Bempah also disclosed that investigators had received information implicating some teachers in the incident.
He said some teachers were allegedly involved in encouraging students to attack students of the rival school.
“We have the names of the teachers. They have nowhere to go. At the appropriate time, we will arrest all of them, and their names will be published,” he warned.
The Police Commander assured that students, teachers or any other individuals found culpable would face the law.
He urged students to return to school and assist investigators with information that could help establish what triggered the clashes.
He further cautioned against attempts by parents, school authorities or other individuals to interfere with the investigation, saying such actions could frustrate efforts to restore lasting peace and accountability.
