The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested a 19-year-old robbery suspect following a swift response by a night patrol team at Asabi in the Asokore Mampong Municipality.
According to a police statement issued on Wednesday, July 22, the incident occurred at about 12:20 a.m. on July 21, 2026, when the Asokore Mampong Night Patrol Team received information that a man had been robbed of his mobile phone and left unconscious near the Presbyterian Church at Asabi.
The patrol team immediately proceeded to the scene, where the suspect fled upon seeing the police and hid in an uncompleted building.
Police officers pursued and arrested the suspect, who was identified as Ahmed Mustapha, 19.
A search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of the victim's mobile phone and a machete believed to have been used in the attack. Both items have been retained as exhibits.
The victim sustained machete wounds to the forehead, neck and left hand and was rushed to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Hospital, where he was admitted for treatment.
Police said the suspect is currently in custody assisting with investigations.
The statement added that officers visited the victim at the hospital at about 5:30 a.m. on the same day and found that he had regained consciousness.
He was reported to be in a stable condition and continues to receive medical care under observation.
