The Ghana Police Service has arrested two suspects following the circulation of a viral video showing the physical abuse of a young girl at Agona Jamasi in the Ashanti Region.

The arrests were carried out by the IGP’s Special Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team.

Preliminary investigations revealed that on December 6, 2025, the victim, an 11-year-old girl, reportedly went out and failed to return home. During police interrogation, Osei Akoto claimed he had been authorised by the child’s grandmother to assault her — a claim police say does not justify or excuse the act.

The victim has since been rescued and both suspects have been handed over to the Mampong Regional Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) to assist with further investigations.

The Ghana Police Service reiterated its firm commitment to protecting children and dealing decisively with all forms of abuse, while assuring the public that the suspects will be processed in accordance with the law.
