The Northern Regional Police Command has detained two nurses and a security guard to assist with investigations into the alleged theft of a newborn baby at One Heart Hospital in Lamashegu, Tamale.

The Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) said it received a report of the incident on Sunday, December 21, 2025, around 10:30 a.m.

Initial investigations suggest that a woman pretending to be a nurse entered the hospital’s labour ward and took a newborn baby boy, claiming she was going to give him an injection.

Police have picked up two nurses who were on duty at the time, Abubakari Fatima Bintu and Grace Asiedu Mensah, as well as the security guard on duty, Abukari Iddi, to help with the investigation.

The police say they are carrying out intelligence-led operations to locate the missing baby and arrest anyone involved.

The Police Command has assured the public that it is committed to finding the baby and reuniting him with his family.
