The Ghana Police Service has commended four officers on snap checkpoint duty along the Techiman-Kumasi Highway for their integrity and prompt action in returning a bag containing GH¢85,000 to its rightful owner after it fell from a moving vehicle in the early hours of February 14, 2026.

According to a statement from the Bono East Regional Police Command, the incident occurred around 4:20 a.m., when officers at the checkpoint noticed a bag lying by the roadside.

Led by Inspector George Appiah, the team retrieved the bag and, upon inspection, discovered that it contained cash.

“The exterior had the name ‘Ofori’ and a phone number. The officers did not open or count the money at the scene, instead handing the bag over to the Regional Command for proper follow-up,” the statement said.

Using the contact information on the bag, police called 53-year-old businessman Stephen Ofori from Ashtown, Kumasi, who later came to the checkpoint to claim his property.

Mr. Ofori explained that he had withdrawn the GH¢85,000 from a GCB Bank branch in Wa and was transporting it to Kumasi in a commercial vehicle when the bag accidentally fell off.

Police then counted and verified the cash in his presence, confirming that the full amount was intact before returning it to him.
