The Ashanti Regional Police Command has launched an investigation into an incident in which a Jacobu District patrol team was attacked by a group of civilians at Bepotenten Sukuum while carrying out routine duties.
The incident which occurred on January 23, 2026, led to the death of a civilian and injury to others.
A statement issued by the police revealed that the officers were attacked by about 100 people wielding cutlasses and guns.
The Pole said the officers had recovered a pump-action gun from a 15-year-old boy and instructed him to inform the owner to report to the police station with the proper documents.
However, the team was confronted by a crowd blocking the road, armed with cutlasses and firearms. The group allegedly assaulted officers and seized a service rifle.
The Police said “In the resulting confrontation, the assailant who had taken the weapon was shot by police, and another was injured. The service rifle was successfully recovered.
The Police Command would like to once again caution the public against attacks on our officers since perpetrators will be pursued and arrested to face the full rigours of the law.”
