Minority to file new motion against 2022 budget approval
The Minority in Parliament will be expected to file a new motion against the approval of the 2022 budget.
According to the Minority, they will do so when Speaker Alban Bagbin returns from his medical review in Dubai.
“Obviously when Mr. Speaker comes, we will take this matter up to possibly submit another motion on it because we believe that [First Deputy Speaker’s] refusal to admit the motion was very biased,” the caucus’s Chief Whip, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, told journalists after a crunch meeting on Monday, December 13.
Former IGP Asante-Apeatu files notice to discontinue case against Net2 TV’s Justice Annan
Former Inspector General of Police (IGP), David Asante-Apeatu, who has been pursuing a defamation suit against Net2 TV’s Justice Kweku Annan for months has directed his lawyers to discontinue a case against the journalist.
The notice to discontinue the case, which Prime News has sighted, did not give reasons for the dramatic decision.
However, the notice of discontinuance follows a surprise warning from the judge hearing the case to Mr Asante-Apeatu’s lawyers.

The draw for the last-16 of the UEFA Champions League has been redone after a mistake saw the first attempt declared null and void.
The draw which took place at UEFA's headquarters saw the eight group winners and eight runners-up from the group stages thought they had discovered their fate for the first phase of the knockout stages following the completion of the group stages last week.
However, with the rules having clearly stated that no two clubs from the same country could face each other, nor could two clubs that had gone head-to-head in the group stages, Manchester United United were pitted up against Villarreal who they faced in Group F.
Court adjourns Sosu’s case to Dec. 20
The Human Rights Court 1 has adjourned to December 20, 2021, the case brought before it by the Member of Parliament for Madina La Nkwatanan Constituency, Francis-Xavier Sosu, praying the court to stop the Ghana Police Service and the Inspector General of Police from any attempt to infringe on his rights.
Sosu filed a case asking the court to enforce his human rights, an order for the enforcement of his right to free movement, protest, demonstration, and personal liberty among others under Article 14(1), 21(1), and 33 of the 1992 constitution.
He further asked for a stay of all criminal investigations and proceedings by the Ghana Police Service and the IGP against him.
Women are endangered species in Ghana - Law expert laments
Lecturer at the faculty of Law at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), Dr Kwaku Anane-Gyinde, has stated that women in Ghana are endangered species compared to men.
His comments follow revelations by the Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Mr. Isaac Ken Yeboah, that a staggering number of women report rape cases annually.
Speaking at the inauguration of an interviewing room for people who suffer domestic and gender-based violence (GBV) for the Madina DOVVSU, Mr Yeboah disclosed that about 15,000 cases of violence against women were reported to law enforcement agencies annually.
Sawla police patrol team eliminate two dangerous robbers
Two armed robbers have been killed by the night patrol team under the Sawla District Police Command in the Savannah Region.
According to the District Police Commander, ASP De-Graft Adjei, the incident occurred at Kalba shortly after his outfit received a distress call at about 2:00 am on Sunday about a robbery incident.
He said his Command dispatched a patrol team to the area but upon reaching the scene, the suspected robbers opened fire on the officers.
Police recruitment: Successful applicants to get call ups from today
The Police Administration has disclosed that it will start inviting successful applicants who took part in the 2021 recruitment exercise from today, Monday, December 13, 2021.
These successful applicants will then begin their medical examination and interview from Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at designated locations in Accra, Kumasi, Tamale and Cape Coast.

Scrutinize 2022 budget but don’t frustrate gov't – Otumfuo tells MPs
The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has lauded Members of Parliament for the vigorous scrutiny of the 2022 Budget.
But he has admonished them not to frustrate the government from performing their legitimate duties.
Otumfuo made the statement at Manhyia Palace on Sunday, December 12.
He has also advised the current administration to welcome other suggestions.
Opuni files another application for removal of Honyenuga from his case
A former Executive Director of COCBOD, Dr. Stephen Opuni, has filed a new application at the High Court seeking the removal of Justice Clemence Honyenuga as the trial judge in the case involving him and Agricult Ghana Limited CEO, Seidu Agongo, where they are being accused of causing the state to lose over GHS 217 million in a cocoa fertilizer transaction.
In the application, Dr. Opuni said the judge has shown open hostility towards him and is clearly biased against him.
