Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has announced plans to integrate technology into Ghana’s transport sector through strategic partnerships, while emphasising that operational oversight will remain under the Ministry of Transport.
“We will ensure that any relevant technological conversation is well aligned, but the Transport Ministry will lead on operational matters,” he said during a meeting with officials from Yango, the Ministry of Transport, and the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) on Friday, August 15, 2025.
Transport Minister Joseph Bukari Nikpe welcomed the proposals and urged Yango to formally submit them for review.
He highlighted Ghana’s existing electric vehicle policy and roadmap, stressing the government’s readiness to embrace partnerships that enhance transport infrastructure and services.
Both ministers described the meeting as an introductory platform, with subsequent engagements expected to delve into a detailed review of Yango’s proposals for possible integration into the country’s transport system.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Transport Minister Dorcas Affo-Toffey, Chief Director of the Ministry of Transport Mrs. Mabel Asi Sagoe, and DVLA’s Acting Director of Research, Business and Innovation, Mr. Abraham Zata.
Yango was represented by Shashi Singh, COO for MENA; Zanyiwe Asare, VP of Public Policy, Africa; Tom Ofonime, Country Head, Ghana; and Mohammed Suhuyini Zakaria, Public Policy Consultant, Ghana.
