Samira Bawumia, wife of Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has finally broken her silence on the issue of his health, saying that he is doing well and will be returning to work soon.

In a Facebook post on Thursday, the Second lady who is in the UK with her husband said: “ My Husband Bawumia and I are grateful to all Ghanaians and well-wishers from across the world for the prayers, support and best wishes. Dr Bawumia was reported ill by the presidency on Friday, January 19, 2018. He was later flown to the UK on Saturday for further treatment and is currently on medical leave.

Ghanaians have called on the government to provide details of the exact medical situation of the Vice President.

Mustapha Hamid, the information minister had earlier stated: ” You are aware that the Vice President of the Republic, Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is currently on a medical leave in London. We wish to report that he is doing very well. The Chief Of Staff And other senior government officials have been talking to him. God willing, he will be back".

Two days after the Vice president's departure, the Minority in Parliament registered its displeasure over the apparent lack of communication from the government on the health status of the Vice President.

Meanwhile, Majority Leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, has suggested that the Minority’s calls for full disclosure of the medical condition of the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, are hypocritical.

“For now, I think it’s most preposterous for anybody to say that let’s demand the report, what report? The report, based on suspicion?” he said.

“This is the same call that I made of late president Mills. Those who to this day are resisting it, are the same people who are now saying this” he stressed.
