A 46-year-old man has been arrested by the police at Bortiano near Weija in Accra for allegedly murdering his wife.

The man, Samuel Otoo, killed his wife of just four months, Rita Otoo, after accusing her of stealing 200 cedis.

According to a report by the Ghanaian Times, Samuel, a plumber, hit Rita's head with a hammer during a quarrel over the missing money.

He then locked her in the house and went to work.

He reportedly returned home after work only to meet Rita dead in the room.

He is said to have then taken her to a funeral home for preservation and claimed that she died of high blood pressure.

But when the body was examined, there was blood oozing from the part of the head where the hammer hit.

The police were therefore called in and Samuel was arrested.

The Accra Regional Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Effia Tenge told The Ghanaian Times that the suspect was in custody of the police, assisting in investigations.

ASP Tenge said said during interrogation, Samuel told police that he placed his money in the room the previous night and realised it had been stolen the following day.

She said Samuel accused his wife of taking the money, since they were the only two living in the room but she denied ity, resulting in a scuffle.

Otoo said he used a hammer he uses for his plumbing work to hit his wife and she died.
