The United States has donated 14 Armoured Personnel Carriers to the Ghana Armed Forces in a move aimed at strengthening Ghana’s border security and reinforcing military cooperation between the two nations.
The official handover was held at the 153 Armoured Regiment at Burma Camp, where U.S. Ambassador to Ghana, Virginia Palmer, formally presented the vehicles to Ghanaian defence leaders.
The donation is part of a broader effort to enhance Ghana’s ability to respond to security challenges, particularly in the north, where instability in the Sahel region continues to pose serious threats.
Speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador Palmer shared the importance of this partnership. “The United States values its close relationship with Ghana and will continue to support its efforts to enhance national and regional security,” she said.
The donation includes military-grade armoured vehicles that are expected to play a critical role in Ghana’s peacekeeping and counterterrorism operations.
With the country taking on more regional responsibilities, these vehicles provide both protection and mobility for forces deployed to high-risk areas.
Receiving the equipment on behalf of the military, Ghana’s Minister for Defence, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, expressed his appreciation for the support.
He assured that the vehicles would be properly maintained and used effectively to protect national borders and promote peace in the region.
This handover marks another chapter in the long-standing defence partnership between the United States and Ghana, underscoring both countries’ shared commitment to regional stability and mutual security goals.
