President of Nigeria Muhammadu Buhari has called for political stability in Togo as opposition parties are fighting for the restoration of the 1992 Constitution of the country.

Speaking at the 61st independence celebration of Ghana, President Muhammadu Buhari said:

“I am appealing to all the opposition parties in Togo to please come together to resolve their differences so that Togo will move forward. It’s the same thing I wish Nigeria and Ghana to continue to provide the impetus in realising the objectives and ideals of the founding fathers of the Economic Community of West African States to ensure security, peace, and development of our region.”

President Muhammadu Buhari further commends President Nana Akufo-Addo for brokering peace among the feuding political parties in neighboring Togo.

“Permit me to put on record Ghana’s untiring effort in brokering peace in Togo by bringing all the warring factions to the negotiating table,” Mr Buhari said when he delivered a speech at Ghana’s 61st Independence Day celebration in Accra on Tuesday, 6 March.

The interest of Togo should be paramount

President Akufo-Addo has advised political leaders in Togo to put the interest of the country above their parochial interests.

Akufo-Addo said all political factions must be committed to finding a lasting solution to the political crisis in the country.

Speaking at the introductory session of finding a peaceful solution to the political crisis in Togo on Monday, February 19, President Akufo-Addo said the Government and the opposition parties must note that the political future of Togo lies in their own hands.
