Authorities in the Western Region have described as fake the kidnapping story of a pregnant woman in Takoradi.

The Western Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah disclosed that preliminary investigation and examination by a Doctor in charge of the kidnapped lady shows that she was not pregnant.

Also, initial investigations by the BNI indicate the story of the kidnapping was fake.

Regional Minister said this in a radio interview with Accra based Angel FM.

The nine-month pregnant woman reported missing in Takoradi a few days ago, Josephine Panyin Mensah, 28, was found in Axim.

She was immediately sent to the Axim Government Hospital for medical care.

Josephine was reported missing by her husband, Michael Simmons, on Friday, September 17 after a search for her the previous day proved futile.

She reportedly have left home Thursday dawn for a walk but never returned.

The complainant, her husband, told the police his mother-in-law later had a call from an unknown person demanding a ransom, fuelling rumours of another kidnapping case in the Western Region capital.

The police immediately began frantic search for the pregnant woman.

Her brother-in-law told Takoradi-based Connect FM’s Paa Kwesi Simpson that they received a call Tuesday that she has been spotted in Axim and they followed up to find her alive.

Alex Essien narrated they went to her rescue without any police officers but later informed them about the development.
