The Tema Circuit Court has fined two fishermen a total of GH¢192,000 for fishing without valid licences.
The court convicted Philip Allotey and Festus Mensah on June 16, 2026, and fined each of them GH¢96,000.
The two were charged with fishing without a valid licence, an offence under Section 56 of the Fisheries and Aquaculture Act, 2025 (Act 1146).
Their conviction followed an enforcement operation conducted by the Fisheries Enforcement Unit (FEU) on June 1, 2026, which resulted in their arrest.
The FEU is mandated to enforce the provisions of the Fisheries and Aquaculture Act, 2025, including measures to promote responsible and sustainable fishing practices and combat illegal fishing activities in Ghana.
