Pro vice chancellor of the university of cape coast Prof. George Kweku Oduro has cautioned against the implementation of the free Senior High School [SHS] education, if measures are not put in place to ensure quality than just satisfying a political agenda.

According to Joy FM’s report, Prof. Oduro has noted that the notion of the free SHS education is not well explained to parents and many of the schools are not having the enabling environment to accommodate more student.

“How will parent interpret the notion of free in this context, does it mean that all the issues involving their wards education will be cater for by government? So the same component of funding senior high schools will still be there, alumni’s will still have roles to play in the schools, you get to so many schools ………..their labs are empty, they don’t have library, so if access is given through free education and these schools remain with empty labs and empty libraries then it compromises quality.”

Prof. Oduro believes that if measures are not put in place to ensure quality the implementation of the free SHS will just be a political agenda.

“Then If boarding schools will become free then what it the justification of making of some a day students when it is the tax payers money that is been used to grant this free education that also post a very big challenge unless government put in measures to ensure but at all levels quality is promoted, if that is not done then the free fee SHS only fulfil a political agenda.”
