Bishop Daniel Obinim, the founder and leader of the International God’s Way Church, is in police custody for allegedly defrauding a man of GH¢11.6 million.
Earlier in the week, Obinim made sparked outrage when a video emerged of him beating two teenagers in his church with a belt apparently for having sex.
The two incidents typify who Obinim is – a controversial individual who is always in the news for the wrong reasons.
Today, Primenewsghana.com brings you eight other controversial and shocking acts of Obinim that infuriated many members of the public.
1. Obinim claimed earlier this year that he had the ability to turn a snake. The remark attracted public condemnation for him.
2. Last month, a video emerged showing Obinim touching the genitals of male members of his church.
3. In June, the bishop claimed that he had the power to enlarge or reduce the size of people’s breast and sex organs.
“If you do not like the looks of any part of the body, come to me, what do you want that I can’t offer…if you want a big buttocks I can do it for you, if you want big breasts, I can help…if you have a small manhood, I can change them all when I come to the spiritual realm,†he said.
4. Obinim provoked national outrage when a video surfaced, showing him stepping on a stomach of a pregnant woman while praying for her in his church.
5. In 2011, a leaked audio tape exposed the fact that Obinim had slept with the wife of one of his junior pastors and had also made disparaging remarks about his wife.
6. In 2011, Obinim attacked panelists of Accra-based Hot FM, who were discussing his infidelity. He is said to have stormed the station with a pinch bar and damaged property.Â
 
 7. In April,  Obinim challenged a fetish priest, Okomfo Yaw, to a spiritual contest at the Jubilee Park in Kumasi that would have seen both men take turns to sleep in a coffin for 30 minutes.
8. In March, threatened to kill Reverend Isaac Owusu Bempah of the Glorious Word Ministry International who accused him of being a false prophet.
