Two brothers in Koforidua in the Eastern Region have introduced a new method of generating electricity from Cassava waste.

The young guys, James Ansah and brother Kwesi Ansah have named their innovation which is built from ordinary items from their backyards such as plastic gallons, wood and copper wires, "JK2 table power".

James and Kwesi who spoke to the BBC explained that they decided to come up with the innovation when they realized that cassava is produced in abundance in Ghana and it has the properties of an electrolyte.

They then figured out a way to use excess cassava to produce electricity to charge their phones, power their radio sets, light bulbs, etc.

The mother of the boys, Maame Fante affirmed to the BBC that the boys use their "JK2 table power" to power their household although they are in a community where numerous others don't have access to electricity.

The brothers want support from government or the private sector in order to expand their innovation.
