The United States (US) government donated female body armour to the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) on Wednesday, 20 August 2025, at the General Headquarters, Burma Camp.

The donation, worth three million United States dollars ($3 million), forms part of a broader initiative to support the contributions of Ghana to regional and global security.

Chargé d’Affaires ad interim at the US Embassy, Mr Rolf Olson, stated that the body armour is specifically designed for female military personnel and is expected to enhance the safety and operational effectiveness of Ghanaian female peacekeepers.

The Chief of Army Staff, Major General (Maj Gen) Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu expressed gratitude for the support, mentioning that the armour will enable female soldiers to serve more safely and confidently in challenging environments.

Maj Gen Gbetanu further noted that the donation reflects the deepening ties between Ghana and the United States and their shared commitment to peace, security, and the welfare of military personnel.

This donation follows a pledge made in 2023.
