The Volta regional minister Dr. Archibald Letsa has indicated the commitment of the law enforcement agencies in the region in dealing with culprits of the renewed clashes in Nkonya which has resulted in the death of two in the area.
The Nkonyas and Alanyas have been involved in fights in the Volta region of Ghana for over decades now.
According to the Kpando divisional Police commander Chief Superintendent Prosper Ahlorgya the incident happened around 7 and 8pm on Wednesday, April 19.
He also stated that the individuals who perpetrated the act are alleged to be from Alavanyo.
“It was an attack from Alavanyo according to the soldiers on the ground who were monitoring events. They they said the attack was from the rival side, Alavanyoâ€.
In reaction to the incident the Volta Regional Minister, Dr. Archibald Letsa, has pledged the commitment of the regional security coordinating council to deal with the culprits involved.
He also called for calm among the two towns not to spark any other violence as the regional security coordinating council is looking into the incident.
“They shouldn’t panic [and] that the situation is under control.â€
“…It was quite a shock to us yesterday [Wednesday April 19, 2017] when we had the news around 5pm that two people were shot at Nkonya…around 4:30pm,†and “that is quite unfortunate.†He stated in an interview with StarrFM
