President John Dramani Mahama has revealed plans to develop the Volta Lake into a major economic corridor as part of the 24-Hour Economy Policy.

He disclosed this during a Multi-Sectoral Engagement on the implementation of the 24-hour economy at the Jubilee House on Wednesday.

“This beautiful national asset will become the heartbeat of our new production and logistics network,” he said.

The President explained that the Volta Lake Economic Corridor will activate over two million hectares of lakeside land.

“We’re creating a complete value chain – from revitalized fisheries to industrial parks serving domestic and regional markets,” the President noted, adding that new floating assets and ports would make the lake a key transport route.

Mahama confirmed the Volta River Authority would partner with private investors on lake infrastructure projects.

“This isn’t just about hydropower anymore. We are unlocking the lake’s full economic potential,” he emphasised.

On export development, the President outlined plans to shift from raw materials to value-added products.

“Our focus includes pharmaceuticals, garments, industrial inputs and digital services – sectors where Ghana can compete globally,” he said.

According to the President, special industrial zones along the Volta corridor will drive this export push.

The President also announced tax relief measures to boost participation.

“Businesses will benefit from machinery tax waivers and faster regulatory approvals,” he said, noting that, these incentives would particularly help small and medium enterprises.
