The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has confiscated the mobile phone of an invigilator at Forces Senior High School at Burma Camp after allegedly finding suspected Oral English answers on the device.
The incident occurred during a monitoring exercise in the ongoing 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
The team, led by WAEC’s Public Relations Officer, John Kapi, discovered while visiting selected examination centres.
WAEC said the action forms part of its intensified measures to curb examination malpractice across the country.
This year, more than 450,000 candidates are sitting for the WASSCE in Ghana. WAEC has stepped up surveillance in examination centres nationwide in a bid to safeguard the integrity of the assessment.
A total of 461,640 candidates from senior high and technical schools are sitting for this year's exams.
They include 207,381 males and 254,259 females, representing a marginal increase of 1,029 compared to 2024’s figure of 460,611.
