The Speaker of Parliament, Professor Mike Ocquaye says Ghana cannot make laws to legalize homosexuality because of the societal values of the country frown upon it.
Professor Mike Ocquaye, made this known on Tuesday when members of Amnesty International paid a courtesy call on him in Parliament.

The Human Rights group has been leading advocates for African countries to respect the rights of homosexuals and decriminalize the law which makes the practice illegal. Although homosexuality is not technically illegal in Ghana, anal intercourse or sodomy is illegal and punishable by a prison sentence.

Aside from South Africa, African countries have refused to legalized lesbianism, gayism, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) rights in the various countries. African religions also strongly oppose the act.

Addressing the group, the Speaker said he believes it will not be in the right direction for the country to amend its laws to make homosexuality legal.

"The right for a human being to sleep with an animal is also becoming a human right and we are tired with some of these things and we must be frank about it."

He noted, these acts are against the natural order and will send humanity to extinction.
