A 54-year-old, Agya Kwaku is currently on the run following the death of his wife after he poured a substance suspected to be acid on her on Tuesday night in their matrimonial home at Atwima Mim near Nkawie in the Atwima Nwabiagya District of the Ashanti Region.

The deceased, 45-year-old Maame Abena Safoah, suffered burns to her entire body as a result of the sheer quantity of the acid. Also destroyed were her beddings and floor carpet..

The couple had had a protracted misunderstanding over their inability to have children in their about two decades old union and had been living in separate rooms in the husband's hiuse?.

Agya Kwaku also known as School Boy’s attempt to burn the entire house to cover up his action was thwarted by some Good Samaritans who managed to put out the fire.

According to eyewitness, Akua Asantewa who lives in the same house with the couple, said around 11.30pm last night, she heard Safoah shouting for help from her room which alarmed her to rush there.

She said she forced open Safoah’s door only to find her on the floor wailing and when she tried to pick her up she felt a burning sensation from the body of the deceased upon which Safoah told her that it was the husband who had poured acid on her. She said she rushed out to call for assistance from neighbours.

Akua Asantewa further revealed that on her way back to the house she saw the husband’s room in flames but just at the gate, they saw the husband dash out of his room and ran outside. Some of the neighbours managed to put out the fire.

She said the neighbours took Safoah who was groaning and weeping and repeatedly called out the husband’s name, to the Afari Community Hospital but was referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) where she died, Daily Graphic reported.
