A 29-year-old South African guy has shocked internet users after revealing that he's had a vasectomy done on him because he never wants to have children.

JagIsOffline, as he is known on Twitter, said he had always wanted to have his tube tied because he does want to be a father.

He shared photos of his appointment card, and while he was lying on a bed – presumably at the health facility where the procedure was done  – and captioned them, "I did it. I just got my irreversible vasectomy done.”

"I'm 29. Unmarried. No children and no intention of ever having any. I've wanted this for years. It's surreal," the photographer told social media.

Vasectomy is a surgical procedure for male sterilisation or permanent contraception.

During the procedure, the male vasa deferentia are cut and tied or sealed so as to prevent sperm from entering into the urethra and thereby prevent fertilization of a female through sexual intercourse.

Vasectomies are meant to be permanent – can’t be reversed – so doctors advise that you should only get a vasectomy if you’re 100% positive you don’t want to be able to get someone pregnant for the rest of your life.
