VRA issues alert on controlled spillage of Akosombo, Kpong dams

The Volta River Authority (VRA) has alerted stakeholders of a possible controlled spillage from the Akosombo and Kpong dams.

This is due to the consistent rise in the water level in the two dams as a result of the continuous rains in the last few days.

In a notice issued by the Corporate Affairs & External Relations Unit, VRA said “If the current situation persists, it may result in the possible controlled spilling in the coming days.

VRA, therefore, has cautioned all residents along the Volta River and downstream of our Akosombo and Kpong Dams to be on alert and take the necessary precautionary measures.

It said it will continue to monitor the situation, work with our key stakeholders, and provide regular updates to ensure prompt response to any emergency that may arise.
