The government has rejected assertions that it has decided to convert the halted National Cathedral project site into a Cultural Convention Centre.
Addressing journalists at a press briefing at the Jubilee House in Accra on Friday, July 18, Government Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu stated that no such decision has been made by President John Mahama.
Kwakye Ofosu emphasized that although a proposal had been presented to the 24-hour Secretariat suggesting an alternative use for the land, the President has neither endorsed nor approved any transformation of the site.
"President Mahama has not made any such decision. What has occurred is that the 24-hour Secretariat received a proposal from an organization regarding their belief in the potential use of the Secretariat.
"However, no decision has been made by President Mahama on this matter," Mr. Kwakye Ofosu stated.
He further mentioned that the future of the site will only be determined following the completion of a forensic audit into the National Cathedral project and the operations of the now-dissolved Secretariat.
"As I have indicated, once the forensic audit is completed and all relevant issues are clearly understood, a definitive decision will be made regarding the future of the site," he remarked.
This clarification arises amidst speculation concerning the fate of the site, which has experienced minimal progress since construction was halted, despite the government having already invested millions in the project.
